Wheat...It was another week of rangebound movement for west coast cash
wheat prices. Week-on-week performance showed both hard red winter and red
spring wheat prices drifting a bit lower against respective futures. White
wheat basis continues to firm and has moved to within a dime of a marketing
year range that has spanned from 56 over to 103 over nearby Chicago futures.
Recent cooler weather and moisture across the Pacific Northwest has helped
improve winter wheat conditions.
Top Buyers...The last weekly USDA export sales report from the middle
of September shows the same countries remain in the top five category but
the order has shifted from last marketing year. The Philippines holds the
number one spot for white wheat with nearly 30 million bushels, followed
by South Korea with 18.4 million, Indonesia with 12.9 million and Japan
with 12.8 million. Thailand rounds out the top five with 3 million bushels.
Out of that group, sales to South Korea are down 34% from the same period
a year ago, while sales to Indonesia top the gainers and is up 17%.
