Wheat...West coast cash wheat bids drifted a bit against lower futures
in late week trading. White wheat basis held in line with a week ago and
bids have been supported by recent export demand. Protein wheat markets
saw basis strengthen during the week for both hard red winter and dark
northern spring wheat.
Weekly Sales...USDA reported a better pace of export demand last week,
with sales of nearly 12 million bushels moving year-to-date commitments
up to 334 million, which is 31% below a year ago and 14% below the 5-year
average pace. Hard red spring booked 4.5 million bushels to put current
year commitments at 99 million, which is 17% below a year ago and 14%
below average. White wheat reported another good week with 4.3 million
bushels in new sales, putting commitments at 104 million which is 15%
above a year ago and 28% above average. Hard red winter garnered 1.6
million and with 73 million bushels in commitments sets 63% below last
year at this time and 40% below average.
White Wheat Sales...USDA acknowledged a stronger pace of exports
for U.S. white wheat last week and current year totals are running 13
million bushels ahead of a year ago and at the best pace since 2017/18.
Sales to the Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand account the bulk of the
year-to-date increase.
